110,000 employees are sent back to work by a city giant.

As working from home policies continue to wane in the UK, advertising execs at a FTSE company are the most recent group of employees to be urged to return to the office.

Employees at the London-listed advertising conglomerate WPP, which owns Wunderman Thompson and Ogilvy, will henceforth be required to report to work at least four days a week.

Previously only obliged to go to work three days a week, employees at WPP headquarters in the capital will now be expected to work at least two Fridays every month in addition to coming in more frequently.

Chief executive Mark Read expressed his belief that “we do our best work when we are together in person” in an email sent to all employees.

‘It’s easier to learn from each other, it’s a better method to mentor colleagues starting out in the sector, and it helps us win pitches as a completely integrated team,’ he added later.

As businesses throughout the UK continue to fail, WPP is the most recent employer to abandon the pandemic-era of working.

After huge industrial action began this week after staff were told they couldn’t continue working from home all the time, Scotland Yard promised on Tuesday to take harsh measures against any who refuse to return to their desks.

According to reports, JP Morgan, the largest bank in America, was planning to mandate that employees return to work five days a week. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs, a significant competitor, modified its policy in 2023 and required employees to work the entire week.

However, the corporation, which has 114,000 employees worldwide, stated that it would not be going back to its pre-pandemic methods of operation and that each agency within the group was allowed to establish its own flexible working practices.

The business added that it considers unique situations and has a thorough permission process for any deviations from the new regulations.

“Despite our technological sophistication, we are still a people business,” Mr. Read stated. Our success still depends on the foundations of connections, creativity, and human connection in everything we do.

“A growing number of our clients are working in offices and anticipating this from the teams that collaborate with them.”
